NYC Hypnosis for Bad Habits
Hypnosis for Habit Change | Online & NYC Sessions
You decide to stop a habit, then find yourself doing it again—sometimes before you even notice. Or you know which habit you want to build, but struggle to follow through consistently.
I’m Elena Mosaner, a Certified Consulting Hypnotist and ICF Professional Certified Coach with 20 years of private practice. I help clients understand recurring patterns and practice new responses through hypnosis, coaching, and mental rehearsal.
Sessions are available online via Zoom year-round, with in-person appointments in New York City during four annual visits.
How does hypnosis work for habit change?
We begin by exploring how your habit works in everyday life: when it happens, what comes before it, and what you get from it. A behavior might provide stimulation, distraction, comfort, or a temporary release of tension.
During hypnosis, I use focused attention, guided imagery, and personalized suggestions to help you mentally rehearse a different response.
For example, you might practice noticing an urge earlier, pausing before acting, and choosing an alternative that fits the situation. We also develop practical steps for using that response outside the session.
The aim is to make the pattern more noticeable and create more room for choice. Hypnosis does not erase a habit or automatically replace the need for practice.
What habits can we work on?
Depending on your circumstances, our work may focus on:
Nail biting
Hair pulling
Skin picking
Smoking or vaping
Eating in response to stress or boredom
Procrastination and avoidance
Repeated checking or scrolling
Not every repetitive behavior is simply a “bad habit.” Hair pulling, skin picking, substance use, and eating difficulties can require specialized assessment and treatment. During your consultation, we will discuss whether my approach is suitable and whether additional support would be helpful.
For trichotillomania and skin-picking disorder, hypnosis can be considered complementary support rather than a replacement for established behavioral treatments such as habit reversal training.
Can hypnosis help me build a new habit?
Yes. Sessions can focus on developing a new routine, such as exercising, preparing for presentations, practicing a skill, or creating a consistent wind-down routine.
We make the habit specific:
What will you do?
When and where will you do it?
What will remind you to begin?
What might get in the way?
How will you restart after a missed day?
Guided visualization and mental rehearsal allow you to practice the sequence in your imagination. Personalized suggestions reinforce the reasons the habit matters to you.
The goal is a routine you can realistically repeat.
How many sessions will I need?
I generally recommend beginning with two sessions focused on one habit or goal, then reviewing your progress.
Some clients notice changes early. Others benefit from additional sessions, changes to their environment, or a different form of support. Results vary, and improvement after the first session is not guaranteed.
Together, we identify practical signs of progress—for example, noticing the behavior sooner, doing it less often, or returning to a new routine more consistently.
Will I learn self-hypnosis?
Yes. You will learn self-hypnosis techniques and mental rehearsal exercises tailored to your goals.
You will also receive a personalized audio recording to support your practice between sessions. We will discuss how to use it alongside practical changes in your daily routine.
Are sessions online or in person in NYC?
Online hypnosis sessions are available via Zoom year-round.
I also offer in-person appointments in New York City during four visits each year. Contact me for upcoming dates and availability.
