Have you ever had a mental orgasm by looking at a picture?

“The moment you change perception is the moment you rewrite the chemistry of your body.” Dr. Bruce H. Lipton

The below illustration can be seen in two different ways. Simply change your mental focus and let your mind surprise you.

As I looked at it, I immediately saw the first picture, which seemed to be the only one. Then I started to focus looking for a second picture. It was not easy. I kept at it for while. I was getting frustrated and ready to give up. I began to think intensely, and looked at every line, shifting my focus carefully from one point to another – and all of the sudden, I literally felt the neurons in my brain firing off in the most over-joyuous explosion as the second picture came alive before my eyes! At that moment it seemed as though my mind had briefly split and then came together and I was falling into a “white hole” swirling with time, space and all matter at the same time. I only wish this feeling lasted longer.

This is a great exercise that shows us how there are many ways of looking at things in life. And when you think you had it all figured out and set your view on life in stone – it is time to start doubting it and shifting your focus, because you maybe surprised to see things in ways you never thought were possible!

How one woman overcame her fears of sex with hypnosis

nyc hypnotist

People are often intrigued by hypnosis and how it works in clinical setting. In this part of my blog I will be describing hypnosis sessions with my clients. All names will be changed and situations slightly modified for the purposes of clients’ confidentiality.

A hypnosis session is typically divided into two parts, a 45-minute pre-talk and a 45-minute hypnosis session. During the pre talk my job as a clinical hypnotist is to help my clients identify their desired outcomes and their limiting beliefs, which stand in way of attaining these outcomes. I like to call these limiting beliefs thought viruses, because they slow down a normal healthy functioning of the mental and physical capacities.

Janet came to me with a rare fear, she is petrified of sex. She described that while she wants to be able to enjoy sex, she feels disgusted by it. Every time she is about to have sex she gets overwhelmed with feelings of resentment, shame and anger. As I interviewed her and did a brief regression, we identified that her beliefs about sex were formed at a young age. She was growing up with a mother who had a drinking problem, was careless, promiscuous and often brought random men in the house. Little Janet continuously witnessed this behavior, as she heard inapproroate sexual sounds, saw messy rooms and her distraught mother when the men were gone. Jane started to develop anger towards her mother and her sexual promiscuity, overall thinking of sex as a bad thing. Her immediate interpretation of sex was, it’s dirty, it causes bad feelings.

During the regression I have also used a metaphor by having Janet pretend she was her mother for a moment. When she associated with her, she spoke in her mother’s voice and tone, and was able to answer my questions as her mother would. Ultimately, Janet was able to forgive her mother, as she understood her mother was in lot  of pain, lost, lonely and never meant to hurt her daughter with her behavior.

After this exercise I induced a deeper state of physical and mental relaxation and gave Janet positive suggestions to help her rewire her beliefs about sex. This is my favorite part, because beliefs identify our actions and behaviors. We form beliefs during the course of our lives, from people, places and situations, into which we are exposed to. Whatever they are, positive or negative, they shape your lives.

Here is a brief version of Janet’s personal script with positive suggestions: “ From this time onward your feelings about sex have changed. You are free to enjoy sex, because you have let go of the past. You understand that your mother’s behavior has no effect on how you think about sex today. You understand your mother didn’t mean to hurt you, she had a lot to deal with and was in lot of pain herself. You completely forgive her. All connections with the past have been broken. From now on your thoughts about sex are always loving and positive. Sex is always enjoyable to you. You are always in the moment when you have sex and connected with your partner 100 percent. You are free to enjoy it, free to be yourself, free to immerse yourself in this most pleasureble human activity, glide with it, enjoy every second, every movement, every sound, every breath you take.”

To put it simply, I help my clients rewrite their personal stories with the uniquely designed personal suggestions. This allows them to look on their past situations from a much bigger, loving and wiser point-of-view, detached from blaming, guilt or resentment and so on.

Hypnosis is a process of transmitting ideas via a state of receptivity. It is a natural process, that can take place through repetition of an idea, conditioning techniques, visualization of the outcomes and etc. All you need is the right type of positive suggestions and a state of focused attention, induced by a clinical hypnotist, or yourself if you practice self-hypnosis.

NYC Hypnotism: 3 Things You Must Know

Twirled curve tube vortex as abstract backgroundLooking for hypnotism in NYC? Before you make this life-changing decision, here are three very important things you should know:

– the hypnosis market is very competitive in NYC, know how to choose your hypnotist

– every hypnotist is unique, with a specific style and expertise, find the one that is right for you

– check your hypnotist’s credentials and biography

Over the last few years the number of practicing clinical hypnotists has increased significantly. There is finally demand for it, as more positive light has been shined on clinical hypnotism by media. Oprah, Dr. Oz, various News channels have all expressed interest in the benefits of hypnotism for weight loss, stress reduction, smoking cessation and etc.

So, how do you track down a good hypnotist, who could really help you?

  1. Look for their credentials.  Most professional hypnotists are certified either by NGH ( National Guild of Hypnotists or IACT (International Association of Counselors and Therapists). It is always good if a hypnotist has at least one college degree.
  2. Study their web site. Clinical hypnotists with experience and expertise will have a very informative web site, with testimonials, blogs and articles, which they wrote.
  3. Look for their social proof. Have these hypnotists been on TV? Have they written a book? Have they made a film? Have there been any articles written about their work in newspapers or magazines?  Check their Facebook page/city search profile and see what their clients maybe saying. Check how many followers they have on their social media networks.
  4. Make a phone call and have a chat with them. Ask your questions about how they could help you, what the session would entail. Every hypnotist has a unique style and most hypnotists have an expertise, something they are either very good at or are passionate to work with.

Hypnosis in NYC. What you must know.

Central park at sunny day

Hypnosis in NYC has become a more common and accepted form of therapy for a positive change. Clinical hypnosis can be used to rewire your mind for more healthy behavior patterns and ways of living.

Most of my clients ask two questions before booking a hypnosis session. How does hypnosis work? What if I am not hypnotizable?

Clinical Hypnosis works on a simple principle: a hypnotic induction is used to induce a state of receptivity and positive suggestions are given to client to reprogram their mind.

A state of receptivity – hypnosis – is characterized by focused attention and mental concentration. You don’t have to be in deep trance or a state of altered consciousness in order to be hypnotized for a change, such as stop smoking, weight loss, overcome a bad habit and etc. When you are mentally relaxed, your critical part of the mind is on hold, therefore the information that comes into your mind settles in deeper in the unconscious, becoming part of belief system. Your beliefs become your reality. If on a deep level of your mind your believe that “Exercising is fun, easy and enjoyable and makes you look good and healthy” – then lo and behold, you will exercise naturally, effortlessly, regularly and you will lose weight. If on a deep level of your mind you believe that “ Smoking is poison and brings people closer to death and that from now on you are a non-smoker”- then be surprised how easy it will be for you to stop smoking and never pick up a cigarette again. If on a deep level of your mind you made a choice to move on from a painful relationship and open up to new exciting possibilities – then be amazed at how easy it will be for your to mend your broken heart. The list is long – you can hypnotize yourself for anything you want. All you need is a state of receptivity, induced by a clinical hypnotist. You can also do it yourself using self-hypnosis techniques.

Can anyone be hypnotized? Absolutely. Anyone with normal intelligence( or above) who is willing to follow the instructions of a clinical hypnotist, can be hypnotized. A hypnotic induction is process consisting of  step by step instructions, such as progressive relaxation, eye/arm catalepsy, guided imagery, numbers counting backwards, indirect suggestions and etc. Many clinical hypnotists use standard hypnotic inductions, like for example Dave Elman Induction or Flower’s Method Induction or Eriksonian indirect suggestions to trance. Of course, professional hypnotist usually have to have an array of hypnotic inductions and methods, as the approaches vary according to each client.

Overcome Trichotillomania ( Hair pulling/Hair twirling habit) with Hypnosis

beautiful dark-haired young woman

NYC Hypnosis therapy for hair puling.

Trichotillomania is  the compulsive urge to pull out (and in some cases, eat) one’s own hair leading to noticeable hair loss, distress, and social or functional impairment. There are variations of the habit, when people try to pull the hair until they see their own skin on the hair, or they twirl them, bite them until the hair gets entangled and destroyed. Sounds gruesome, but this is actually a common habit among women in New York City.

Usually around spring women with trichotillomania seek out solutions to end the habit, as they tend to be more outdoors, with no hats to hide their bold spots. I have been getting a wave of trichotillomania clients in the last few months.

Trichotillomania is usually caused by depression, stress or traumatic events in the past. It many ways, this habit is a way to release anxiety or nervous energy. Many of my clients report that they actually enjoy pulling their hair, as if it gets them into some soothing relaxing state of mind. They forget their stress and troubles, their inner chatter shuts down and they slip into a state of trance. So, unconsciously a person does that with a  positive intention, to feel better and more relaxed.

Logically, every clients understands that hair pulling is a self-distractive, unhealthy and unappealing habit, however the unconscious mind bears  a different belief: “this habit makes me feel better, I release stress when I do it.”

When I work with my clients to help them overcome bad habits such as hair pulling/twirling, I  reeducate  their unconscious mind about the dangers and disadvantages of the habit and I  teach them a few healthy ways ( quick self-hypnosis techniques) to release stress.

There are many self-hypnosis techniques that can immediately help you release anxiety and make you feel more relaxed. My three favorites are Bilateral Stimulation technique, EFT ( Emotional Freedom Technique) or Peripheral Vision technique. These short self-hypnosis techniques serve the same goal as a hair pulling habit: they make you feel calm and relaxed. Except that they are absolutely  healthy!

After we’ve gone over those techniques, I induce a state of deep mental and physical relaxation – hypnosis. I reeducate my client’s unconscious mind about all the disadvantages of the bad habit, that it’s dangerous for their health, doesn’t make them look good, doesn’t fit them anymore and etc.  Most importantly through ideo-motor responses I assure that the client has accepted a new programming and understood the healthy techniques to help them release stress, in case the old urge for a bad habit ever returns.
