Hypnosis for Stress Management

Overcoming Stress Beating Anxiety Jumping Over WordStress is simply a reaction to a stimulus that disturbs your mental and physical equilibrium. A stressful event can trigger a rising of hormones such as adrenaline or cortisol, caused by the natural fight-or-flight response. A minor stress can keep you on your toes or even make you more productive and focused. However, a prolonged chronic stress can cause detrimental effects on your health, both mind and body.

If you live in a big city, such as New York, then you probably know how stressful life can be, working long hours, travelling long distances, dealing with stressful situations at work or home. The more involved you are in your busy life, the more stressors will continue to surmount all around.

What makes a huge difference is your reaction to your environment and stress.

Every person’s life situation and story is unique. Stressors and reactions to them vary from person to person. Your stress may be coming from work and your boss, it can be from the certain family members, it can be your employees or a project that you have to finish.

The best way to solve unpleasant feelings and stress caused by your environment is to regain your personal balance and inner peace. You can achieve that through regular meditation practice or self-hypnosis. When you feel calm, relaxed, collected and grounded – you can deal with almost any stress and negativity.

Regular Meditation practice or self-hypnosis are powerful tools to help you keep your mental balance. When you meditate regularly, your body naturally releases endorphins, chemicals responsible for a happy mood.

There are four known brain waves cycles, which measure the ionic flow within the neurons in the brain. These brain wave cycles are are Beta, Alpha, Theta, Delta. Alpha and Theta are the brain waves cycles that happen during meditation and deep relaxation. Mental states with alpha or theta brain wave activity are generally very positive states of mind. You feel calm and relaxed. It becomes easier to think, access memories, find solutions to problems and make better wiser decisions. You become more resourceful and begin to see a better and bigger picture of your life situations. During such states your mind is no longer cluttered with negative thoughts, you are detached from doubts, judgments or any fear-based emotions.

Regular exercise is a wonderful way to keep a physical balance and health. When you exercise regularly your body also releases endorphins, making you feel more energetic physically and over-all excited.

When I work with my clients on stress related issues, I use hypnosis to help them gain their inner equilibrium through deep mental relaxation. I teach them relaxation and self-hypnosis techniques. I also, help my clients come up with specific positive affirmations to help them deal with their unique challenging life situations and stressors.Suggestions for regular exercise, eating healthy and better sleep are also given to a client for the over-all well being and health.

If you would like me to help you with managing the stress in your life, please see below to schedule a session with me ASAP! I look forward to working with you.

Hypnosis for overcoming relationship break ups

Success winner womanHypnosis can help you heal a broken heart and forget a person. By using “a time forward thinking” while in deep trance, you can let go and move on with your life much faster.

There isn’t a more powerful remedy for a broken heart than TIME. Time can help you soothe your pain, distance you from missing the pleasant memories of the relationship or hurting from the painful. With time you can learn to let go and move on. With time you begin to understand the meaning of the relationship and why it ended and what you have learned from it. You begin to see the bigger picture and how it changed you and how it made you grow.

Every person heals a broken heart, it is just the matter of time.

Hypnosis can help quicken the healing process time while conditioning you to be more positive and energetic.

In a hypnotic state you can imagine yourself in the future where you have healed and moved on.  Where you are completely detached from pain, free from the memories of the relationship and false hope. In the state of hypnosis you can experience what it feels like to be full of positive energy again, renewed in mind and body. You can envision yourself participating in your regular fun activities, exercising and socializing and etc.

It is important to experience this powerful state even if you have to pretend and imagine to feel this way at first. This will teach you how all the emotions you experience now from your break up are nothing more than a state of mind. You can let go of pain, sorrow and sadness now. This state of mind can be changed in just a split second through hypnosis, visualization and programming the mind with powerful positive affirmations.

You can learn to choose your feelings and emotions. You can condition yourself to naturally and effectively choose a positive state of mind at all times. Excitement, looking forward, feeling happy and simply celebrating the joy of life – all of these positive feelings are possible now. Want it and you can have it.

Before the induction to trance, I spend time helping my clients outline specific personal suggestions and affirmations that are conducive for their success, happiness and overall peace of mind. Hypnosis for Success Motivation

Can or Can't Toggle Switch Committed to Solution AttitudeWhen I work with clients with procrastination problems and lacking success motivation, I often find that they are not sure about what they what they want, or they want too many things at the same time.

Other times they know what they want, but they simply feel overwhelmed and can’t get started. In some cases they know what they want, they have started their work but consciously get sidetracked, procrastinate and never finish. So they get more discouraged, feel like a failure and don’t know how to move forward.

Hypnosis can address all of these problems and pave the way to success. How?

There are four basic steps to any success: knowing your goals, planning your strategy, executing your plan and closing. You also have to have certain mental attributes, specific emotional and mental states, and personal qualities. Staying focused, clear, driven, determined, positive, punctual, going extra mile, persistent, being energetic, physically healthy – are examples of some of the key ingredients of success.

When I work with my success motivation clients I first spend some time helping them identify their goals. We talk about their one year, five year and ten year plan. I ask a client to describe the steps they would take toward their goals and how exactly they could be accomplished. We talk about what recourses they already have and which need to be acquired and how. There is absolutely nothing impossible. If there is a will, there is always a way.

Visualization of your goals allows the manifestation of those goals by showing your powerful and resourceful unconscious mind what it feels like to have your dreams achieved. You allow your mind to see and feel and maybe in some cases even hear the success of your dreams. This is like titillating your mind, exciting it by the powerful reality like imagery of your dreams. Be surprised how in a waking state you will be almost like on an autopilot, moving in the directions of your goals, feeling more motivated, inspired and energetic than ever.

I spend time with my clients writing their personal story of success, consisting of specific positive affirmations according to their goals. For instance, for a writer who needs focus and motivation to write a screenplay or a novel, I would give suggestions like “You are able to focus on writing the most intricate stories. It is easy for you to extricate stories out of your unconscious mind. All of your wisdom, knowledge and experience from your current or previous existence comes streaming right through you in the most unimaginable ways. You see your theme, your characters and narratives with great clarity.”

In a hypnotic state I guide my clients into a powerful visualization of their outcomes. After the visualization part of hypnosis session, I guide my clients into a deeper state of relaxation to program their minds with their personal positive affirmations for success.

Read my personal story of success and how goal setting, visualization and self-hypnosis helped me make my documentary film Zaritsas which was shown across the globe on RTVi in December of 2011.

“I turned to hypnosis with a desire to gain control in my life in regards to time. For years the idea of getting through my daily schedule punctually seemed like an overwhelming task. As I became busier the problem got worse and I garnered a reputation amongst friends and colleagues of always being late. I needed a drastic change, I decided to try hypnosis not knowing what to expect. As I had hoped hypnosis has made a drastic difference in how I relate to time. I feel confident every mourning knowing that I have given myself the time I need to be punctual and therefore successful in my life, career and relationships. I am very grateful for the experience.” Elena Goode, 28

Overcome Harmful Habits with Hypnosis

beautiful girl enjoying the summer sunHypnosis is widely used to help people overcome bad habits.

Nail biting, hair pulling, skin picking, thumb sucking, smoking are all common bad harmful habits that can easily be overcome with hypnosis and replaced with new positive and healthy habits. Instead, you can be programmed to take care of your nails and skin, to exercise moderately and comfortably, and lead an over-all healthy life style.

Most bad habits are associated with some positive feeling of satisfaction or comfort. These associations are stored in your unconscious mind and were formed at some point in your life.  It doesn’t matter when and how they were formed, because for hypnosis all we need to do is program your mind with new specific affirmations about the negative aspects of your habit and the positive consequences of overcoming it. Sometimes, in the case with bad habits, all your mind “knows” is, how comfortable it makes you feel to bite your nails, pick your skin or pull your hair, while logically you know it is unpleasant, un-appleaing and overall useless. Through hypnosis you can rewire these associations and remove the old patterns. You will stop the bad habit and never come back to it.

When I work with clients to help them overcome bad habits with hypnosis, I use a hypnotic induction to deep mental and physical relaxation. When the client reaches a state of trance, I give them specific suggestions to help them break an old bad habit and substitute it with a new healthy behavior.

Any additional suggestions focus, positive thinking, motivation to exercise or eat healthy ( if necessary or requested) are given to a client for the overall well-being and success.

How to hypnotize yourself

Does self-hypnosis work?

People often ask me if self-hypnosis works and  what’s the best way to do self-hypnosis. There are many ways, of course. You can listen to self-hypnosis audios with a hypnotic induction leading to trance. You can meditate using deep breathing techniques or your personal mantras. You can also look at various hypnotic moving visuals, like the waves of the ocean. Or you can use hypnotic visuals still images, like spirals for example. The goal of all of these methods is to help you achieve a thoughtless state of mind, where you no longer judge your environment or the information that comes into your mind.

I found a hypnotic spiral on fotolia images, which doesn’t look like a usual hypnosis spiral. It’s actually a square, which consists of many circles with warm light red to black colors. If you look at this hypnotic image, after a few seconds you will find yourself getting hypnotized, all thoughts will naturally begin to push away into the distance. You will feel a subtle relaxation in your facial muscles. Even your eyes will feel hypnotized, feeling a little heavy and very relaxed. A soothing wave of relaxation will spread down into your nose and cheeks, all the way down into your chin. Try it for yourself. Just stare at this image below for a few moments. Once you feel relaxed, you can simply say your positive affirmations out loud, letting them sink deep into your unconscious mind. For example, if you want to feel more focused and productive today you can use these affirmations:

I feel more focused today    My mind is sharp and clear   I have a great memory

I accomplish more every day   I feel more and more productive  Ideas come naturally to me

I feel more energized now    My thoughts are positive   I am driven   I succeed every day

Hypnosis square

Good luck getting self-hypnotized! You can also use your own personal affirmations with this self-hypnsis visual. Make sure your affirmations are always stated in present tense and in positives. Let me know how this hypnotic “square-circle” works for you!

Skype hypnosis

Skype hypnosis

Can one be hypnotized online? Absolutely. Skype hypnosis sessions are the perfect way for getting hypnotized online anywhere at anytime.  You can be sitting at your computer at home with headphones or perhaps at work during the break. You can be relaxing in your own backyard or in nature somewhere on the meadow or by the ocean while hearing hypnotic suggestions for a  positive change and transformation.

Today’s technology can allow you instant Skype hypnosis sessions with a clinical online hypnotist without travelling to their destinations. Take your smart phone, download Skype software and bring your headphones with you – things just get easier and hypnosis sessions happen faster.

Lately I have been doing many Skype hypnosis sessions with clients that live overseas or are unable to visit my NYC office due to scheduling reasons.

Skype hypnosis sessions can be just as beneficial as personal hypnosis sessions. There are a variety of different hypnotic inductions, many of them do not require you to be in the same room with a clinical hypnotist.

Hypnotic induction is set of specific instructions that help a person achieve a sate of hypnosis. In order to achieve a state of hypnosis, all the client needs to do is follow the instructions of a clinical hypnotist word for word. It may take anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes to reach a deep state of physical and mental relaxation. The state of hypnosis is very similar to a zone state, meditative state or simply a state of focused attention.

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind. Absolutely anyone with normal intelligence ( or above) who is willing to follow the instructions of a hypnotist – can be hypnotized into a state of light or deep trance.

When I conduct hypnosis sessions ( online or in person) I talk about how hypnosis could help my client achieve their goal during the introductory time before an actual hypnosis session.  I spend some time to help the client  design specific suggestions according to their personal issues. Suggestions are the belief statements that can be tailored to each person individually. Hypnosis sessions for smoking cessation, sleep problems, weight loss, performance anxiety, success motivation, relationships issues, crisis management, stress management and more can all be given via Skype.

Wouldn’t that be great if you were at the beach sitting by the beautiful ocean, hearing the sound of the waves and having a hypnosis session with a clinical hypnotist using your smart phone and headphones? Positive suggestions would sink deep into your unconscious mind while you were relaxing naturally. You could occasionally open your eyes and look at the ocean and listen to the suggestions, close them right back deeply hypnotized, feeling a healing soothing ease envelop your entire body penetrating every cell, muscle and fiber into a state of light trance, where all changes are possible and positive transformation is just a breath away.

NYC Hypnosis for Performance Anxiety

Hypnotherapy for performance anxietyPerformance anxiety or stage fright is a state of being anxious or fearful that is aroused by the need to perform for an audience. People that have stage fright can experience some form physical shakiness, dryness in the mouth, lack of focus or a shaky voice and an overall negative emotional state.

I have been practicing hypnosis for about ten years and I have observed that people with performance anxiety have a common pattern in their thinking processes. The expectations about one’s performance are often negative and disempowering. For example thoughts like, “ I am not good enough. I am nervous and look bad. The audience judges me and thinks I am awful. They want me to fail. They see that I am nervous and laugh at me. I am ridiculous” are the type of belief statements a person with a performance anxiety would process before or during their performance, or both.

It is unfortunate that such negative beliefs statements in one’s mind affect a person’s behavior in a negative way. As Henry Ford said “ Think you can, think you can’t, either way you are right.” So, if you think you are not that good, then you act poor, aloof and don’t give your 100% as you should. Even more, instead of focusing on your performance or speech, you begin to focus on the audience, and how it is “judging you and against” you. That’s right, as ridiculous it sounds, the performer with stage fright often perceives an audience as some sort of enemy, that judges them and wants them to fail. This is what I like to call a “thought virus” of the mind, a limiting belief that infects the subconscious and makes you act accordingly. If you believe that someone is your enemy and is out to harm you, what would be your first reaction? Probably, to be alert of your enemy, not to share what you have and try to protect yourself, so you become defensive.

In order to have a successful performance the opposite must happen. There ought to be a profound connection, trust and openness with an audience. On a deep level a performer must believe that their audience loves them, wants to hear them or see them perform, because of how great they are and how much talent or wisdom or knowledge they have to share with the audience. A performer ultimately is a giver of something incredible, be it a beautiful dance, music, voice, new information about something or some wisdom. So, if you are a performer you must believe on a deep level how unique and great you are, and how much greatness you have to share with your audience. Your audience is your friend. Your audience wants you to shine, succeed  and share your talent with them. Once the person accepts such powerful belief statements deep in the subconscious mind – their performance will improve and they will stay positive, confident and focused.

About 1/3 of my clients seek assistance for helping them gain confidence as performers and public speakers. Performance anxiety or stage fright is a third popular issue in my hypnotherapy practice after smoking cessation and  weight loss. I have worked with dancers, violin and oboe players, singers, corporate leaders, public speakers and actors. There is nothing more exciting than helping people reconnect with their highest potential, so they can share their bright light with their audiences.

Testimonials:

“I had taken public speaking courses before through Toastmasters, but I was still anxious about an important presentation to 100+ people at an industry conference. I decided to try hypnosis, even though I was somewhat skeptical about its effectiveness. Elena was very professional and took time to explain how hypnosis can help with my type of phobia. After one session, I was able to control my anxiety leading up to the event. I felt very confident during the presentation.” -John S, 39.

“Elena Beloff changed my life! She made it possible for me to have a viable career as a performing musician. When I went to her, I had a terrible and debilitating stage fright. After three hypnosis sessions I can now play to fully packed houses without any trouble! For my entire playing career, I had severe anxiety. It was characterized by a shortness of breath, a high pulse rate and blood pressure and a belief that the audience was antagonistic or hostile. I had tried everything to control my stress from beta-blockers, meditation/yoga, to medication all to no avail. The night before an important event I would have trouble sleeping and would lose my appetite the day of the performance. These could be anything from playing for my peers to playing for a paying audience. The issue was not who was listening because whomever they were, they were against me and wanted to see me fail; at least so I thought.

After no improvement with the various methods I turned to hypnosis. Convinced by the dismal track record, I felt I had nothing to lose. However, to my great surprise, after the first session, I immediately felt a difference! During the interview at that session, we searched for the cause for the anxiety, the trigger to the stressful feelings. Once found, Elena was able to remove that trigger and replace it with a positive affirmation, which could be activated subconsciously when it was time to perform. Since hypnosis works on such a deep level there is no conscious effort needed in order to create good feelings; it just happens. At my next performance, much to my amazement, I did not have to do any mental cheerleading; I simply did not feel the once familiar anxiety. In fact, if anything, I had to get used to feeling calm for a performance, imagine that!

If you have experienced any of these feelings that I once did, don’t hesitate, make an appointment! It is amazing how easy and successful hypnosis can be and how quickly it can change your life!” – Ian Shafer, 33, a professional oboe player

Post-Hypnotic Suggestion to Overcome Anxiety

lavender flower

New York Hypnotherapy and Lavender Oil Anchor

I once worked with a woman who came to me to overcome the anxiety she associated with seeing her daughter-in-law. She experienced an over-all negative state, which hindered her from expressing herself and simply having a good time with family when they gathered for dinners. I asked what she wanted to feel instead. She said that she didn’t want to feel a sudden liking of this woman or any friendship yet. She simply wanted to feel at ease. She wanted to be comfortable enough to interact normally with her family without constantly experiencing an unpleasant anxiety when she looked at or tried to speak with her daughter-in-law.

I asked her to recall a memory from the past when she felt total bliss and happiness. She said it was with her kids when they were small and they were all lying in bed together. At that moment her life felt worth living.

I explained to her how creating a specific anchor and associating it with this positive memory could help her deal with her anxiety. She could use a trigger associated with this memory and use it every time she was near her daughter-in-law. Over time this would naturally replace her state of anxiousness.  I also suggested some examples of different anchors she could use. She chose an olfactory anchor of lavender oil.

I hypnotized her into trance state and guided her back in time to her memory of when she was with her kids in bed, full of happiness and joy. She gently smelled lavender oil with her eyes closed, as I brought it near her nose. We did this a few times, so that the lavender oil anchor could be naturally and efficiently associated with the state of ease, comfort and peace.

A few days later she told me that she had dinner with her family and her daughter-in-law. She put a little bit of lavender oil on her wrist. Whenever she needed to experience the state of calm and ease, she simply smelled her wrist and felt very positive. She was able to interact and communicate and make choices from a very powerful and positive place of peace and love. This became a powerful post-hypnotic suggestion with a little aid of lavender oil anchor.

Hypnosis for Performance Anxiety

Woman In Front of MicrophonesI often work with clients to help them overcome performance anxiety and stage fright. They can be actors, musicians, dancers or simply someone who needs to build confidence when speaking publicly or interviewing for jobs.

Confidence is a state of total focus and certainty. It is a very positive state where your thoughts are streamlined from a very powerful positive place as are your words, actions, movements, posture and body language.

One of the ways to experience this state of confidence is through programming your mind with positive suggestions, while deeply hypnotized. Suggestions such as “from this time onward you feel confident every time you speak. You are determined, focused and driven.” can reach your unconscious mind and become your permanent programming, affecting your actions and behaviors in a new and empowering way. When I work with clients I design personal scripts with affirmations that are specific to each individual client’s issues.

Another way to secure a desired state like confidence or focus is via setting specific triggers. These are called anchors. Anchors can be visual, auditory, kinesthetic or olfactory.  While a client is in a state of hypnosis, I guide them into a future situation where they can see and feel themselves feeling confident and certain. I paint this imaginary situation as if already happened, so my clients can experience an array of positive emotions associated with this confident state. Once they are fully there imagining the scene and feeling the emotions, I direct them to use their special trigger, which will then be forever associated with this positive state. This trigger can be used anytime to call on the state of confidence at will.  Some examples of triggers are deep breathing, saying a code word to yourself, the use of certain hand positions or visualizing something specific in your mind.

How does Smoking Cause Cancer?

When a tobacco cigarette burns, it releases a cocktail of about 4000 chemicals, more than 70 of them are cancer causing substances.

Scientists have shown that these chemicals can damage a person’s DNA and therefore change the genes, hence causing cancer by the cells growing abnormally and multiplying out of control.

Among these carcinogenic substances  are:

Tar –  a sticky brown residue, which smokers inhale every time the smoke; tar also forms stains on a smoker’s teeth, fingers and lungs

Arsenic, which is used in wood preservatives

Benzene, an industrial solvent, refined from crude oil

Cadmium, used in batteries

Formaldehyde, used in mortuaries and paint manufacturing

Polonium-210, a highly radioactive element

Chromium, used to manufacture dye, paints and alloys

1,3-Butadiene, used in rubber manufacturing

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, a group of dangerous DNA-damaging chemicals

Nitrosamines, another group of DNA-damaging chemicals

Acrolein, formerly used as a chemical weapon

Metals, such as nickel, lead, cobalt and beryllium. These metals are easily absorbed by the lungs when smoked.

There are many more chemicals, that don’t directly cause cancer, but they make it easier for others to do so. Nicotine is not a carcinogenic, however it is a highly addictive drug, which causes a person to want to smoke more and regularly, increasing the chances of getting cancer from inhaling harmful carcinogenic chemicals contained in the cigarette.
