Hypnotic induction is set of specific instructions that help a person achieve a sate of hypnosis. Performance anxiety or stage fright is a state of being anxious or fearful that is aroused by the need to perform for an audience. People that have stage fright can experience some form physical shakiness, dryness in the mouth, lack of focus or a shaky voice and an overall negative emotional state.
I have been practicing hypnosis for about ten years and I have observed that people with performance anxiety have a common pattern in their thinking processes. The expectations about one’s performance are often negative and disempowering. For example thoughts like, “ I am not good enough. I am nervous and look bad. The audience judges me and thinks I am awful. They want me to fail. They see that I am nervous and laugh at me. I am ridiculous” are the type of belief statements a person with a performance anxiety would process before or during their performance, or both.
It is unfortunate that such negative beliefs statements in one’s mind affect a person’s behavior in a negative way. As Henry Ford said “ Think you can, think you can’t, either way you are right.” So, if you think you are not that good, then you act poor, aloof and don’t give your 100% as you should. Even more, instead of focusing on your performance or speech, you begin to focus on the audience, and how it is “judging you and against” you. That’s right, as ridiculous it sounds, the performer with stage fright often perceives an audience as some sort of enemy, that judges them and wants them to fail. This is what I like to call a “thought virus” of the mind, a limiting belief that infects the subconscious and makes you act accordingly. If you believe that someone is your enemy and is out to harm you, what would be your first reaction? Probably, to be alert of your enemy, not to share what you have and try to protect yourself, so you become defensive.
In order to have a successful performance the opposite must happen. There ought to be a profound connection, trust and openness with an audience. On a deep level a performer must believe that their audience loves them, wants to hear them or see them perform, because of how great they are and how much talent or wisdom or knowledge they have to share with the audience. A performer ultimately is a giver of something incredible, be it a beautiful dance, music, voice, new information about something or some wisdom. So, if you are a performer you must believe on a deep level how unique and great you are, and how much greatness you have to share with your audience. Your audience is your friend. Your audience wants you to shine, succeed and share your talent with them. Once the person accepts such powerful belief statements deep in the subconscious mind – their performance will improve and they will stay positive, confident and focused.

I once worked with a woman who came to me to overcome the anxiety she associated with seeing her daughter-in-law. She experienced an over-all negative state, which hindered her from expressing herself and simply having a good time with family when they gathered for dinners. I asked what she wanted to feel instead. She said that she didn’t want to feel a sudden liking of this woman or any friendship yet. She simply wanted to feel at ease. She wanted to be comfortable enough to interact normally with her family without constantly experiencing an unpleasant anxiety when she looked at or tried to speak with her daughter-in-law.
I asked her to recall a memory from the past when she felt total bliss and happiness. She said it was with her kids when they were small and they were all lying in bed together. At that moment her life felt worth living.
I explained to her how creating a specific anchor and associating it with this positive memory could help her deal with her anxiety. She could use a trigger associated with this memory and use it every time she was near her daughter-in-law. Over time this would naturally replace her state of anxiousness. I also suggested some examples of different anchors she could use. She chose an olfactory anchor of lavender oil.
I hypnotized her into trance state and guided her back in time to her memory of when she was with her kids in bed, full of happiness and joy. She gently smelled lavender oil with her eyes closed, as I brought it near her nose. We did this a few times, so that the lavender oil anchor could be naturally and efficiently associated with the state of ease, comfort and peace.
A few days later she told me that she had dinner with her family and her daughter-in-law. She put a little bit of lavender oil on her wrist. Whenever she needed to experience the state of calm and ease, she simply smelled her wrist and felt very positive. She was able to interact and communicate and make choices from a very powerful and positive place of peace and love. This became a powerful post-hypnotic suggestion with a little aid of lavender oil anchor.

I often work with clients to help them overcome performance anxiety and stage fright. They can be actors, musicians, dancers or simply someone who needs to build confidence when speaking publicly or interviewing for jobs.
Confidence is a state of total focus and certainty. It is a very positive state where your thoughts are streamlined from a very powerful positive place as are your words, actions, movements, posture and body language.
One of the ways to experience this state of confidence is through programming your mind with positive suggestions, while deeply hypnotized. Suggestions such as “from this time onward you feel confident every time you speak. You are determined, focused and driven.” can reach your unconscious mind and become your permanent programming, affecting your actions and behaviors in a new and empowering way. When I work with clients I design personal scripts with affirmations that are specific to each individual client’s issues.
Another way to secure a desired state like confidence or focus is via setting specific triggers. These are called anchors. Anchors can be visual, auditory, kinesthetic or olfactory. While a client is in a state of hypnosis, I guide them into a future situation where they can see and feel themselves feeling confident and certain. I paint this imaginary situation as if already happened, so my clients can experience an array of positive emotions associated with this confident state. Once they are fully there imagining the scene and feeling the emotions, I direct them to use their special trigger, which will then be forever associated with this positive state. This trigger can be used anytime to call on the state of confidence at will. Some examples of triggers are deep breathing, saying a code word to yourself, the use of certain hand positions or visualizing something specific in your mind.
When a tobacco cigarette burns, it releases a cocktail of about 4000 chemicals, more than 70 of them are cancer causing substances.
Scientists have shown that these chemicals can damage a person’s DNA and therefore change the genes, hence causing cancer by the cells growing abnormally and multiplying out of control.
Among these carcinogenic substances are:
Tar – a sticky brown residue, which smokers inhale every time the smoke; tar also forms stains on a smoker’s teeth, fingers and lungs
Arsenic, which is used in wood preservatives
Benzene, an industrial solvent, refined from crude oil
Cadmium, used in batteries
Formaldehyde, used in mortuaries and paint manufacturing
Polonium-210, a highly radioactive element
Chromium, used to manufacture dye, paints and alloys
1,3-Butadiene, used in rubber manufacturing
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, a group of dangerous DNA-damaging chemicals
Nitrosamines, another group of DNA-damaging chemicals
Acrolein, formerly used as a chemical weapon
Metals, such as nickel, lead, cobalt and beryllium. These metals are easily absorbed by the lungs when smoked.
There are many more chemicals, that don’t directly cause cancer, but they make it easier for others to do so. Nicotine is not a carcinogenic, however it is a highly addictive drug, which causes a person to want to smoke more and regularly, increasing the chances of getting cancer from inhaling harmful carcinogenic chemicals contained in the cigarette.

Smoking cessation hypnosis is very strategic. You don’t have to believe in smoking cessation or hypnosis, for it to work.
We are “hypnotized” by the media, advertisers and TV on the day-to-day basis. Advertisers use sleek strategies to gain your direct attention, so that they could pass their information into your mind. Smoking Cessation works in the same principle as any advertising campaign would. Smoking cessation works once the trance has been established and suggestions to quit smoking have been accepted and instilled in the unconscious mind.
When I work with my clients, I establish their focused attention or a light to deep trance, by using hypnotic inductions. When the receptive state is established, I “download” the information about the dangers of smoking, creating aversion to tobacco, and instilling beliefs like, “I am now a non-smoker and I will remain a non-smoker for the rest of my life.”
The only condition I require from my clients is their honest desire to stop smoking for themselves, not for their doctor, mother or a spouse. They have to have readiness for a change. They have to be at the point in their life when they are sick and tired of being a smoker.
Smoking cessation hypnosis session lasts about one hour and half. At the end of the session I teach my clients a powerful substitution technique for a cigarette and some self-hypnosis techniques to help them release cravings.

Session 2 Length – 1 hour. Exercise Motivation.
Hypnosis session for exercise motivation. Everyone is different and the preference for the type of exercise varies from person to person. We outline a personal exercise program for each client. This plan is introduced to the subconscious mind, the benefits of exercise are shown, increasing the level of motivation in a waking state.
This hypnosis session is designed to help a client develop healthy eating habits. They will be trained to naturally eat slowly and less. They will be conditioned to stay away from fattening, processed foods and sugar. During the session we focus on a suggestion to become a gourmet of food, which is to eat at a slower pace and savor your food as you chew it slowly before swallowing. It is known that your brain releases a chemical signal to your body to feel satiation 20 minutes after you started eating. The slower you eat, the less you need to sustain life in your body, feel fully satisfied and lose weight. Your stomach will naturally shrink as the days go by and you will begin to require less food to feel satiated. This is very much like getting a gastric band bypass surgery, except that it is all in your mind.
This hypnosis session will help you boost self esteem and confidence. Clients are given ego-strengthening suggestions for confidence and positive thinking. Positive images of the healthy body images and weight loss are reinforced. This hypnosis session can be used to help overcome and cut ties to emotional eating or any addictions to any specific types of food.
Session 5. Length – 1 hour. Reinforcement of healthy eating and exercise.
Hypnosis brings powerful results with repetition. Programming from the previous sessions will be reinforced in the last session for better long-lasting results.
The first questions potential clients ask a clinical hypnotist are: “how much do hypnosis sessions cost” and “how many sessions are needed to work on an issue?”
Fees of course vary from hypnotist to hypnotist. Experience and location of the practitioner also define the price. Hypnosis in NYC can be fairly expensive. On the average a professional hypnotist in Manhattan with experience of over ten years would charge from $200 to $400 per hour. It usually takes two hypnosis sessions to work on a specific issue. If it’s per hour basis charge then your first hypnosis session may last anywhere from one hour and forty-five minutes to two hours, which drive up the cost for the first session. Follow up hypnosis sessions usually last 45 minutes to an hour. Some hypnotists charge a flat fee of $250 per hypnosis session, which may last up to two or more hours, depending on a hypnotist. I know some hypnotist that charge up to $1000 per hour, usually they are either famous or focus on doing mainly workshops and large groups, which leaves them wth less time for individuals hypnosis sessions.

Hypnosis sessions for weight loss vary from person to person and depend on how much weight a client wants to lose. Most hypnotists in Manhattan charge $250 or $400 per weight loss session and require a commitment to five or six sessions for better results. It is common for a client to pay in advance for the amount of sessions required for weight loss program.

One of my youtube followers and long time fan, after seeing my first self-hypnosis video, asked me if I could make a self-hypnosis program for social confidence. He said that he was going to participate in a few social events in October, which would require him to interact with new people, quickly build conversation and remain eye contact. This is a popular Dave Elman Induction, which I frequently use when working with my clients. You can use this induction when working with clients. Make sure your subject follows your instructions word for word. When you are finished with your induction, your subject will be in a state of receptivity ( light trance). Follow up with the script of positive suggestions for change.
“Take a long deep breath in and breath out. Focus on your breath. Let the relaxation set in
Move your attention into your eye-lids. Relax them. Imagine as if they are so very heavy and sleepy. So droopy and relaxed that even if you tried to open your eyelids, you wouldn’t be able to do so. Now tried hard to open your eyes and imagine you can not. The harder you try, the more relaxed they feel. Go ahead try hard to open them, but you can not. Try even harder, and it feel like a chore trying to open them. They feel more relaxed and heavy now.
Stop trying and relax even deeper. Feel the relaxation around your eyes. Feel it slowly spreading all throughout your face now. Let go.
In a moment I will ask you to open your eyes on the count of three and close them right back. Every time you close yours, imagine you can relax your eye-lids twice as deep. Let’s do this right now. One, Two, Three, open your eyes and close them. Go deeper relaxed. Allow the relaxation slowly spread throughout your face. One Two Three open yours and close them right back. Go deeper. And one more time, One Two Three open and close. That’s right deeper and deeper relaxed. Send that wave of relaxation all throughout your body now. Go deeper.
Now before we begin your mental relaxation, I would like to test your physical relaxation. I will take your hand for a moment and see how relaxed you are. Don’t try to help me or hinder in any way. Imagine your whole arm and hand feeling heavy, sleepy and droopy like a rag doll. If that’s ok for me to take your hand now, nod your head to me…. OK good. ( Take their left or right hand and test their physical relaxation, make sure it is relaxed and droopy)
Good, now that your body is relaxed, let’s relax your mind.
I suggest that you begin to imagine numbers in your mind now from 200 going backwards one by one. As you see these numbers in your mind, count them out loud and say the words “deeper relaxed” after each number. Like this “ 200 deeper relaxed..199 deeper relaxed and so all the way down…” Go ahead and begin counting now…
Go deeper relaxed after each number. More and more relaxed. Deep sleep, more and more relaxed.”
