Hypnosis after Ayahuasca

alex greyIn the last years it has become more and more common to hear about people experimenting with an amazonian medicine called Ayahuasca for emotional and mental healing.

If you tried Ayahuasca you understand that it works kind of like a virtual technology, allowing you access into the world of vivid imagination while being fully awake. What people see during Ayahuasca experiences is ineffable: moving patterns, sacred geometry, matrix like figures, stories unfolding before their eyes – words are not enough to describe these visions. Whatever you encounter in that world, contains an enormous amount of information, kind of like the internet. If you search for something specific by asking a question, you may receive an answer through pictures, sounds or personal narratives. Every experience is individual and varies from person to person. If you choose to just go with the experience without asking anything specific, you will still receive some sort of insight or information pertaining to your personal growth. As Graham Hancock said: “Ayahuasca is school.”  You come to “class” then you leave back to your ordinary world. You process what you have seen and learned  during the journey and try to incorporate the insights into your life.  If you choose to come back to this “school” again, then you return back to where you left off.

I am a hypnotist, not an ayahuascero. I help people relax mentally and emotionally using relaxation techniques or as we like to call it in the hypnosis world – hypnotic inductions. Once the client is in a relaxed state of focused attention, suggestions can be given for a positive change in the desired area of life.

Hypnosis can be quite powerful in the aftermath of ayahuasca. The knowledge and insights people receive during their journey on ayahuasca can be very powerful. If one follows through on the received knowledge, their life can literally be taken to a new level, creatively, professionally, personally and etc.

In my hypnosis sessions, I help my clients understand their ayahuasca journeys better. The knowledge they receive can be dissected into simple personal lessons and learning – all of which can be integrated in the unconscious mind through hypnosis, to enhance their personal growth.

Often people become overwhelmed by the information they receive during their ayahuasca journeys. There is a shaman to assist them during the ceremony. However, going back to the ordinary life it is not uncommon to get confused or even forget what was received. It is important to have a guide who can understand you, speak your language in order to process new information, so you could gain peace and greater wisdom.

Hypnosis for OCD/Hoarding

Woman meditating at BeachObsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), or behaviors that make them feel driven to do something (compulsions).

Approximately 2.3% of the population in the US between ages 18- 54 suffers from OCD, which outranks mental disorders such as: schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or panic disorder.

Typically, a person’s OCD will fall into one of the following four areas: 1.Obsessively checking things for safety to prevent danger/disaster 2. Fearing contamination that can cause disease or fatality. 3.Hoarding, inability to discard worn out and used possessions. 4. Rumination and intrusive thinking about something or someone.

It is OK if you check on your door locks regularly, or wash your hands every time you come home from the street, or perhaps you tend to keep your old dresses or pants in the closet and never throw them away. However, if these mild and rare obsessions consume excessive amounts of one’s time in daily life, cause significant distress and anguish in oneself and others, interfere with daily functioning at home, school, or work – then they become Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

There are two main approaches to treat OCD: pharmacological and therapy. Hypnosis, as a form of therapy, can be used to help ease the symptoms of OCD.

How does hypnosis for OCD work exactly? First of all, let’s understand the mental thought processes of a person suffering from this disorder.

A person with OCD ( especially in the case of checking and contamination fears) usually believes that if you don’t follow certain rule or routine, something bad will happen. This is almost like an algorithm that controls the action in the computer software. If there is X, then Y will follow. In the case of OCD, there tends to be a similar simple algorithm in the mind of a person. It’s a thought algorithm, which predicts one’s action and therefore overall behavior.

Very rarely a sufferer would admit out loud to anyone or even to himself what this “Y” is all about, precisely what this bad consequence from not following “X” -the rule/routine can surmount to. Because the “Y” often tends to be quite illogical and irrational in its base. Here are some examples:

If I don’t wash my hands today (X), the germs will invade my palms, enter the bloodstream and I will get sick, rot and die (Y).”

If I don’t step on the lines in the pavement as I walk, I will screw up the order and get anxious, freak out and lose my mind. People will see me go crazy and will laugh at me.”

If I don’t tap my desk three times before I leave my room, I will have bad luck and have bad day or week.”

If don’t check electric or gas stove knobs every five minutes at night, my house will explode and I will die.”

If I don’t write five examples of OCD algorithms right now, nobody will read my articles, ever.”

As you can see, all of the above examples show a yearning for rules, order and some sort of structure that ought to be followed. Here is one more example from a hoarder:

If I don’t pick up this old and used appliance I just found on the street, it will be left alone, unused, and I will feel more sad and out of place just like this lonely object right now. ”

Collecting old used things from the street gives hoarders some sense of order, peace and acceptance.

Let’s look at how hypnosis can help one ease these obsessive thoughts and therefore create well-being and natural sense of peace. Clinical hypnosis works with one simple formula: a trained hypnotist induces a state of receptivity ( trance or focused attention) and programs the mind with affirmations (specific belief statements). Various hypnotic inductions are used to establish such state.

Beliefs like “ If I shake people’s hands, their germs will invade my skin, crawl underneath it causing me illness and death” can be reframed into a new program like: “ Shaking people’s hands is OK, people do this regularly and stay healthy and alive. So will you. From this time onward you feel free calm and relaxed shaking people’s hands.”

Beliefs like “ If I don’t wash the dishes and place glasses all in specific order before leaving my apartment, I will get bad luck.” could be reframed into “ Bad luck has nothing to do with dish washing or placing glasses in a specific order. You let go of this idea, it is useless and has no rational base. You wash your dishes and place glasses neatly as any other person would with no connection to any bad or good luck. It is a mere activity, it no longer bears any meaning.”

These are the shortened versions of programming which could be used to help one overcome obsessive-compulsive thinking. Every person with OCD has a unique set of intricate thought patterns in the form of algorithmic belief statements. Therefore a unique customized programming is required. This programming is created only after the client has communicated his or her belief system about certain obsessive behavior.

In addition to personal programming with positive affirmations, a client is also taught relaxation techniques and self-hypnosis to help deal with tension and obsessive thinking.

How I can’t wait to be hypnotized every week

Creative InnovationThis is not as crazy as it sounds. We get hypnotized by TV, Media, music, sports or even our friends, colleagues and lovers on the day-to-day basis. I specifically enter a very deep hypnotic state every week on Sundays when I write weekly episodes of Quantum Voyeur with my friend and co-author John Zakour. Quantum Voyeur is a science fiction weekly series on Serealites.

How specifically am I hypnotized to write? Or am I hypnotized by writing?

There are many definitions of hypnosis. One of them comes from my first hypnosis teacher and great hypnotist Dr.George Bien: “Hypnosis is an escape mechanism caused by focus or distraction, interest or boredom, joy or sadness. It’s the escape to inner self that creates power or debility.”

Shall we dissect this? Hypnosis as an escape caused by focus or distraction. When you focus on something, like playing sports or writing an article or presenting a speech to your audience – you enter a powerful zone state, where you no longer judge or analyze your environment or yourself, for that matter. You simply flow. On the contrary, when you are confused by a gypsy, a con artist or a skillful politician, you may feel distracted, trying to make sense of what happened, what to do next and what direction to go. In this case, you are also in hypnosis, a state of receptivity, open to suggestion.

Hypnosis caused by interest or boredom. You can be so interested in Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad, curious about the course of events or action in the next scene – you are in the state of attention, hence hypnosis – open to new information entering your mind. Commercials cost loads of money during SuperBall and the next season of a highly rated TV show. Advertisers know exactly when your minds are open to receive and absorb new information!

Boredom? You might ask how one is in the state of hypnosis when bored. You will be surprised. A person can be bored when they can’t process information anymore, they feel either tired or overwhelmed or simply uninterested. This is the time they could be triggered into the state of direct attention to suggestion, because they are already in the sleepy state, easy to manipulate. Give them simple and interesting instruction or information, they will quickly pay attention and follow.

Hypnosis caused by joy or sadness. If you are an indigenous person or aborigine ( thanks for reading my blog!), you know how dancing around the fire can produce tremendous joy and euphoria. That’s your method to enter trance states! If you are a modern person, then think of a joyous moment when you felt, almost like being on a natural ecstasy. Maybe you won an award or received a surprise gift you always wanted. This is a state of hypnosis. You can be so excited you can’t speak, filled with emotions! Sadly, some unscrupulous people, use this state for their advantage that could cause harm: Jim Jones would do it to his followers, creating a false sense of joy as they worshiped their idol.

Sadness. Yes. When you are sad or even depressed, you have a tendency to slip into the state of melancholy, dwelling on something that keeps you at an impasse.  You may think  of the past, visualizing what happened and what went wrong. The more you imagine it- the more you are in hypnosis, as you tend to put critical thinking on hold if not neglect it completely.

Now the final part of George Bien’s definition of hypnosis, “It’s an escape to inner self, that creates power or debility.”

All suggestions, be they from media, TV, teachers authority figures or your self – they enter your mind, penetrating your inner self, affecting your actions and behavior in a new way. They process, digest and produce either power or debility. If you stopped smoking, you gained power. If you continue to believe that you are worthless because your teacher or parent criticized you unfairly when you were a kid – you will create a low self-esteem, causing weakness and some sort of mental debility. Your thoughts create power or lack of it.

Every week I enter hypnosis on Sundays after we receive our final votes from our readers. We only have one day to write and post a new episode every Monday night. Thus far, we have nine more weeks to go. After that, we have two more months to finish a novella, to be published this fall.

It has become an addiction for me, to write every Sunday. I find that I can’t wait for that day, so I can enter a wonderful world of imagination. I plunge into a state of hypnosis caused by profound focus, interest and joy. I escape into my inner self, discovering a new universe of characters and stories. This process overall produces more excitement, joy an personal power. Not to mention an actual tangible result.

How Katy Perry used hypnosis to forget someone

Katy-PerryRelationship break up are as natural as hurricanes and tsunamis.  They can hurt you, leave you restless and at times, even a little beat up. Nothing in life is perfect.

What matters the most, is the after-math and how you deal with it. Unfortunately, many people fall into depression or feel anger and resentment. Some desperately hope that things may turn around and their ex will come back to them. If it’s a real break up and deep within you know the relationship wasn’t working out and that it was time to go separate ways – then here are some tips to help you mend a broken heart:

  • Use deep relaxation to help you release emotional and physical pain. To relax, simply listen to a peaceful music and bring your attention to the emotional pain in your body and mind. Try to accept it and then release it. Do this for about 20 minutes.
  • Use mental visualization or rehearsal of your new possible future where you are participating in new, fun and positive activities; exercising, starting a new business or finishing a report for school and getting an A. Think of all the great rewards you will receive as you step onto the new path in your life.
  • Use positive affirmations stated in present tense, like “I have moved on”, “My heart has healed”, ” I am fully recovered”, ” I am renewed in my mind and body.”  Repeat positive affirmations silently with your inner voice for about 10 or 20 minutes. Hypnosis works a lot on repetition.

You can also use deep hypnosis and some NLP ( Neuro-Linguistic Programming) tools to help you forget and distance yourself mentally from specific people or memories. Singer Katy Perry, according to sources used hypnosis to help her forget singer John Mayer.

For example, in a very deeply relaxed state of mind, almost like a dream-like state you can give yourself a powerful command to detach from the person and begin to see them either unattractive or funny or you can picture an image of this person becoming blurrier and blurrier till you can not see them anymore, allowing them to become your distant past. You can laugh it now. It’s long gone.

Past Life Regression: Fake or Real?

Freedom concept. Escaping from the cagePast Life Regression is the practice of regressing one into life times previous to the one they live now. Bear with me, if you are a skeptic. Don’t go away just yet. I don’t practice past life regression as a clinical hypnotist and here is why.

Past life regression is based on a belief that your “soul” lives an eternal life travelling from one body to another through many life times. This belief hasn’t been proven by science and there is still no shred of evidence to prove the existence of past lives, to date.

The idea behind these regressions is simple. You see a hypnotist who believes in past lives. You believe in past lives. The hypnotist puts you into a state of trance – a healthy natural state of relaxation and imagination. Then, they ask you to “go back into the life times before this one.” It is basically a command. So, the imagination that you see begins to fit a framework of a presumable ( unproven) “past life time.”  From there on, you can create anything you want, especially with the leading questions of a hypnotist.

I don’t have a problem with the state of trance and imagination. Even Albert Einstein once said, “ imagination is more powerful than knowledge.” In fact, if you channel it right, it can help you paint a beautiful masterpiece, write a screenplay or a novel. Sometimes, it can help you soothe emotional or physical pain by envisioning beautiful sites or vast expanding universes. But to assert that this imagination is your previous life times would be total promulgation.

Past lives is just a popular framework that some people choose to explain their imagination and create certainty. You might as well choose something like “aliens are talking to me” or “angles are guiding me” or “I am accessing future realities or parallel worlds.” You can choose any belief to become the framework for your imagination. Or you can simply play and have fun with it and ride it as a roller coaster without any specific framework. Just use it for good.

8 steps to lose weight in one month. Look at steps 7 and 8 – golden keys to weight loss!

Lose weight fast with hypnosis

We all know, weight loss is possible – we have seen famous people lose weight in rather short periods of time. All you need is two things:

Eat healthy and exercise.

If you follow these 8 steps below– you will lose weight. Guaranteed.

  1. Stay away from sugar. You will be surprised how much weight you could lose just staying away from sweets. Look out for the ingredients on the products which you buy at your local store. If you see sugar, fructose or glucose ( anything that ends with “ose”) – put it back on the shelf. No cakes or cookies. You can handle it for a month, at least.
  2. Stay sway from starch: potatoes, rice, wheat and corn. Although, you may have them in very small amounts once in a while ( once a week?), just don’t mix them with protein.
  3. When you eat protein, like lean chicken, meat or fish – eat them with vegetables. Grilled, not fried.
  4. Eat slowly, eat less. The slower you eat, the lesser you eat and the faster you will feel satiated. Imagine yourself meditating on your food, while you eat. Not only will you lose weight (in one month), but you will enjoy your meals a lot more!
  5. Drink plenty of water between your regular meals.  Water will help you wash down toxins and broken down fatty particles. It will also help you reduce your hunger and cravings for unhealthy snacks.
  6. Exercise regularly. Is there anything else to say here? I think it’s clear. Just exercise regularly.
  7. Finally, one of my favorite tools: Visualization. You ought to visualize your slim body – exactly as you want it to look as if you have lost the desired amount of weight.  Excite your mind with the desired images, and it will do anything possible to help you achieve your weight loss goal. Be surprised. Visualization equals materialization.
  8. And lastly, find a way to program your mind with the steps from 1 to 5. Make a recording, consult a certified hypnotist, meditate on your own – do what you must to program your mind with this simple step by step strategy.

How a man overcame stuttering after hypnotized into being a sexual animal

Julius CeaserConfidence in a man is extremely attractive to any woman. It’s not so much about being Bratt Pitt or Ryan Gosling, it’s more about being Julius Caesar or General Patton. Power, leadership, confidence are the key ingredients to winning a woman’s heart. Thank the biology’s selfish gene for that, because its no secret: women are attracted to power, men are attracted to beauty.

In this part of my blog I will be documenting some of my most interesting hypnosis sessions. All names are changed and situations slightly modified to protect my client’s confidentiality.

Igor came to me with the stuttering problem. He had a minor speech impediment, where certain words are challenging to pronounce. After many years of struggle, he found a way to manage this problem by scanning for feared words to either shift the conversation or substitute difficult words with synonyms. All stutterers do this to some extent but some become so adroit at it that they appear to stop stuttering altogether. They are often labeled as “closet stutterers.” However, no one knows how much stress they have to endure: hunting, substituting, avoiding, maintaining a constant vigilance, overall feeling exhausted by the end of the day. Igor was a closet stutterer.

During the pre-talk, Igor shared with me that a few years ago he went to South America and met Drake, a dating coach, who performed a brief ten minute hypnosis induction with him to help him build confidence meeting women. Drake hypnotized Igor to imagine that he was a powerful man, owning a whole harem of beautiful women; they all desired him, seduced him and he was some sort of sexual animal, impossible to resist. When Igor came out of hypnosis he felt more confident and empowered. To his own surprise his stutter was also gone.

The sexual power and owning a harem of women represented male power for Igor, being some sort of a king, who was able to provide to all of his wives, inseminate them and breed more of his children, that is to spread his genes.

Igor told me that unfortunately the confident feeling lasted only for a few weeks after that brief session and consequently his stutter returned. However, he believed in the power of hypnosis and asked me to hypnotize him again so he could re-experience this exuberant confidence and lose the stutter permanently.

I didn’t want to do the same thing Drake did for Igor, by guiding him into imagining sex orgies in order to overcome his stutter. It wasn’t my style and I am not a dating coach, even though I saw a powerful value in this metaphor for Igor. At the same time, I didn’t want to offer something traditional, conservative and discount the work of Drake. So, I decided that this time, Drake and I “could work” in tandem for Igor: me in the therapy room and Drake in Igor’s imagination.

I used an induction and put Igor into the state of trance, then I guided him back to the experience he had with Drake in 2010. I instructed Igor to imagine Drake and hear his every suggestion one more time, so he could re-experience the same state of extreme confidence and male power, no mater where he was and what he was doing in his imagination.

After Igor achieved the powerful state again, I added a few more metaphors. I guided Igor to imagine and choose people whose confidence, power and vision he admired. Among them were Winston Churchill, Julius Caesar and Thomas Jefferson. Igor imagined himself being these men one at a time. When Igor achieved a magnified state of power mentally, physically and emotionally, I asked him to create a trigger: a deep breath in and out along with his personal code word which he would associate with this desired mental state. This technique is called Anchoring. Anchoring refers to the process of associating an internal state with some external or internal trigger so that the response may be quickly, and sometimes covertly, reassessed at will and at any time.

After Igor’s anchor was locked, I gave him some more suggestions, that from then on it would be easy for him to access this state of confidence and power with his personal anchor at any time and at any place.

Igor was delighted. This time he was convinced that his confidence state is like a software in the mind – always there, available to him permanently. His stutter was also gone. He spoke slowly, smoothly and was very relaxed. The internal state of confidence made him not care about what people thought or said about his minor speech impedement or a random stutter. It simply no longer mattered.

Have you ever had a mental orgasm by looking at a picture?

“The moment you change perception is the moment you rewrite the chemistry of your body.” Dr. Bruce H. Lipton

The below illustration can be seen in two different ways. Simply change your mental focus and let your mind surprise you.

As I looked at it, I immediately saw the first picture, which seemed to be the only one. Then I started to focus looking for a second picture. It was not easy. I kept at it for while. I was getting frustrated and ready to give up. I began to think intensely, and looked at every line, shifting my focus carefully from one point to another – and all of the sudden, I literally felt the neurons in my brain firing off in the most over-joyuous explosion as the second picture came alive before my eyes! At that moment it seemed as though my mind had briefly split and then came together and I was falling into a “white hole” swirling with time, space and all matter at the same time. I only wish this feeling lasted longer.

This is a great exercise that shows us how there are many ways of looking at things in life. And when you think you had it all figured out and set your view on life in stone – it is time to start doubting it and shifting your focus, because you maybe surprised to see things in ways you never thought were possible!

How one woman overcame her fears of sex with hypnosis

nyc hypnotist

People are often intrigued by hypnosis and how it works in clinical setting. In this part of my blog I will be describing hypnosis sessions with my clients. All names will be changed and situations slightly modified for the purposes of clients’ confidentiality.

A hypnosis session is typically divided into two parts, a 45-minute pre-talk and a 45-minute hypnosis session. During the pre talk my job as a clinical hypnotist is to help my clients identify their desired outcomes and their limiting beliefs, which stand in way of attaining these outcomes. I like to call these limiting beliefs thought viruses, because they slow down a normal healthy functioning of the mental and physical capacities.

Janet came to me with a rare fear, she is petrified of sex. She described that while she wants to be able to enjoy sex, she feels disgusted by it. Every time she is about to have sex she gets overwhelmed with feelings of resentment, shame and anger. As I interviewed her and did a brief regression, we identified that her beliefs about sex were formed at a young age. She was growing up with a mother who had a drinking problem, was careless, promiscuous and often brought random men in the house. Little Janet continuously witnessed this behavior, as she heard inapproroate sexual sounds, saw messy rooms and her distraught mother when the men were gone. Jane started to develop anger towards her mother and her sexual promiscuity, overall thinking of sex as a bad thing. Her immediate interpretation of sex was, it’s dirty, it causes bad feelings.

During the regression I have also used a metaphor by having Janet pretend she was her mother for a moment. When she associated with her, she spoke in her mother’s voice and tone, and was able to answer my questions as her mother would. Ultimately, Janet was able to forgive her mother, as she understood her mother was in lot  of pain, lost, lonely and never meant to hurt her daughter with her behavior.

After this exercise I induced a deeper state of physical and mental relaxation and gave Janet positive suggestions to help her rewire her beliefs about sex. This is my favorite part, because beliefs identify our actions and behaviors. We form beliefs during the course of our lives, from people, places and situations, into which we are exposed to. Whatever they are, positive or negative, they shape your lives.

Here is a brief version of Janet’s personal script with positive suggestions: “ From this time onward your feelings about sex have changed. You are free to enjoy sex, because you have let go of the past. You understand that your mother’s behavior has no effect on how you think about sex today. You understand your mother didn’t mean to hurt you, she had a lot to deal with and was in lot of pain herself. You completely forgive her. All connections with the past have been broken. From now on your thoughts about sex are always loving and positive. Sex is always enjoyable to you. You are always in the moment when you have sex and connected with your partner 100 percent. You are free to enjoy it, free to be yourself, free to immerse yourself in this most pleasureble human activity, glide with it, enjoy every second, every movement, every sound, every breath you take.”

To put it simply, I help my clients rewrite their personal stories with the uniquely designed personal suggestions. This allows them to look on their past situations from a much bigger, loving and wiser point-of-view, detached from blaming, guilt or resentment and so on.

Hypnosis is a process of transmitting ideas via a state of receptivity. It is a natural process, that can take place through repetition of an idea, conditioning techniques, visualization of the outcomes and etc. All you need is the right type of positive suggestions and a state of focused attention, induced by a clinical hypnotist, or yourself if you practice self-hypnosis.

NYC Hypnotist teaches self-hypnosis and how to design affirmations

Woman meditating at BeachYou can easily use self-hypnosis to help you overcome specific problems, bad habits, fears or limited beliefs that hold you back in life.

You will need two elements for self-hypnosis: a state of receptivity like focus attention or light trance and your specific affirmation. James Braid, who coined a word hypnosis in 1849, would call this process mono-ideaism. A process of focusing on one single idea, making it part of your unconscious belief system. Once this idea is accepted by the mind, it will begin to affect your behavior and actions in a new and positive way.

Clinical hypnotists use hypnotic inductions to help their clients achieve a state of receptivity. You can also establish such state on your own. Meditation, breathing techniques, chanting, listening to calming music or sitting in nature – are all great ways to enter a state of deep relaxation.

Before you enter that state, you have to know your affirmation. How do you design such perfect simple affirmation? If you are trying to eliminate a bad habit, then simply use a suggestion like ” I am now a non-smoker. Smoking doesn’t fit me anymore”, “I let my nails heal, Nail biting doesn’t fit me anymore”, “Drinking is a thing of the past. I choose not to drink.” As you see from these examples, each affirmation consists of two short sentences, making it more sound and powerful. Make sure your affirmations are stated in present tense and have a positive meaning.

If you are trying to overcome a problem, like stage fright, anxiety, fear of something specific or release a limiting pattern, then ask yourself what you want  and why you don’t have it. Whatever negative belief you receive to your second question, simply reframe it into a new positive belief statement and work with it.

For example, if you want to have a better job or work opportunity enter your life, ask yourself why you don’t have it now. You may receive an answer like: “I am not good enough”, “I am not that smart”, “I am not lucky” or “I am not ready”, or that “It is hard to get a good job”, “I don’t deserve it” and so on. Look at these beliefs and start reframing them into positive belief statements. Read them out loud a few times. It will begin to shift your perception and the way you think. Then try to come up with one good and strong belief statement that encompasses the meaning of all of these new positive beliefs. For example, the counter belief statement to the above example of negative beliefs could be something like this:  “I create new opportunities, I easily find a new job, I am always good and deserving.”

After you have designed your positive affirmation, use any technique you know to help you relax deeply into a state of meditation. Many of you already know how to meditate or at least you can attend a meditation class and learn how to relax mentally.

When you meditate, take your time, don’t rush, allow yourself to enjoy the state of thoughtlessness for a while. Then slowly begin repeating your affirmation silently with your inner voice for about 10-20 minutes, maybe raising the volume of your voice if appropriate. Let it slowly sink into your unconscious.
