NYC Hypnotist for Hypertension

NYC Hypnosis for high blood pressure and stress management.

woman meditating in yoga lotus poseThe medical definition of hypertension is – high blood pressure, a long term medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is persistently elevated.

What happens in the body when you have hypertension?

When you have hypertension, you body is somewhat in a prolonged natural state of response to stress, real or imagined. Hypothalamus, the brain’s master gland and the apex of the body’s autonomous nervous system, sets up a number of responses which result in the release of cortisol and adrenalin in the adrenal gland. These two hormones increase the heart rate, blood pressure, tighten the muscles, which causes the blood flow to be distributed from the intestines to the muscles, so that there is enough oxygen to “escape or fight.”  All of this is the body’s natural coping mechanism to stress.

In a short term, this response can be useful, it makes you alert, sharp, ready to react, run and escape. Stress is an adaptive mechanism with response to threat or the perception of threat. However, in a long term, chronic stress causes the release of the same set of responses for extended periods of time, leading to hypertension and it can devastate the body.

What are the causes for hypertension?

Hypertension is a condition which doctors call idiopathic or essential hypertension (as opposed to the secondary hypertension, which is caused by a kidney disease). Essential hypertension means that the actual cause for this condition is unknown. However, research and studies show that stress plays a big part in the development of hypertension. According to Dr.Herbert Benson, the author of “The Relaxation Response”(1975) at the Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Mass General Hospital in Boston, a full 60-90 percent of doctor visits are for stress-related complaints, hypertension is one of them.

Hypertension is a stress response which begins as a coping mechanism to your environment, which presents threat or at least is perceived as threat. It can be danger, unexpected turn of events, a traumatic event, demanding parents, something uncomfortable or presenting a loss of something, which maybe important to an organism and etc. It begins with an emotional event in the brain such as fear, which is then communicated to the brain’s hypothalamus, which in turn causes the release of cortisol and adrenalin.

It is pretty obvious, even as indicated by the name of the condition: HYPER-TENSION, which means that the person with hypertension has too much tension in their life, so the adrenaline levels are too high and their blood pressure goes up.

If people experience stress earlier in their lives, they will tend to perceive stress even if there isn’t any, so they will tend to be more stressed on a day-to-day basis. And even more, when the real stress is in there, they are unlikely to perceive it and react to it in the most efficient way, unless they were calm and relaxed in the first place.

How exactly does long term stress affect your health?

The long term chronic stress response (the release of adrenaline and cortisol) causes too much tension in your muscles, suppression of the immune system, redistribution of body fat that promotes heart disease. It can cause depression, chronic fatigue, ulceration of the intestines, thinning of the bones and osteoporosis, cancer and etc.

How can hypnosis help reduce hypertension and chronic stress?

Hypnosis therapy can be used to achieve three things: 1. reprogram past events and situations (if any) which caused one to experience stress or trauma as a child. 2 establish a mental state of safety and trust at the deep unconscious level and learn to be more in touch with yourself. 3. learn how to relax physically and mentally at will, with self-hypnosis techniques and meditation.

If you experienced any sort of threat at a child, you have build coping mechanisms to stress and may have a tendency to be in the frequent fight-or-flight response state, just to “protect” yourself. Through hypnosis therapy you can release old fears, shame, self-imposed limitations and begin to trust yourself and your environment, as an adult. You can learn to slow down, become more present and aware of yourself, feel safe and secure all the time. You can utilize deep breathing and relaxation techniques on a regular basis to slow down your heart rate and metabolism, overall elicit a natural relaxation response and feel more at peace with yourself.

According to Dr.Gabor Mate some people who experience chronic stress, can be involuntarily dependent, if not addicted to the chemicals of cortisol or adrenalin in their body, all in order to “live” in their day-to-day environment.  Without them, they may feel uncomfortable and uneasy with a natural state of physical and mental relaxation. Through hypnosis, a person can understand and develop trust and comfort with the state of relaxation.

How many hypnosis sessions do I need to overcome hypertension?

We can not guarantee you will overcome hypertension. However, you can significantly reduce the symptoms of hypertension. While results may vary from person to person, in two hypnosis sessions you will begin to understand the nature and mechanism of deep relaxation and you will learn how to elicit and maintain a relaxation response.  Again, every person is different, some may need to release some patters of the past and even traumatic events from childhood through hypnosis regression therapy, others may simply need to learn and adapt new coping mechanism, such as relaxation. Some clients come back for a few more 45-minute hypnosis sessions for meditation and deep relaxation, just to reinforce and secure this natural state of well being.

All of our clients learn self-hypnosis techniques, and receive complimentary self-hypnosis audios recordings.

Hypnosis therapy doesn’t guarantee or help you meet your soulmate.  Hypnosis therapy can enable you to get into the mental and emotional state of openness, readiness, sense of personal security and confidence, knowing what you want or don’t want. Your hypnotist coach will work with you to help you understand your values, increase self-esteem and clarify your sense of direction. Why is visualization so important in hypnosis?

Visualization doesn’t just work on some magical principal to help you attract love. No. It is pretty logical in fact. Through hypnosis and visualization, you will be guided to feel, see, hear or even imagine the touch and sensation of your desired outcome. This technique is often used in sports psychology, and it is called “priming.”  It can also be used for relationships.

To improve your relationships you can imagine your outcome ( which you and your consulting hypnotist will identify in your first hypnosis session). In this desired future you will see yourself happy, getting what you want, feeling comfortable and relaxed, confident and secure every step of the way. You can visualize yourself on the date or even on a vacation or honey moon. It never hurts to imagine positive things. In fact, it will only strengthen your emotional connection and belief, that whatever you want is possible and achievable. You will begin to act and behave accordingly to this belief in a waking state and your every day life. This emotional and mental state of mind will help you open up, focus and see whatever and whoever is worth your attention and is meant to be in your space. It’s out there!

How can I use hypnosis to improve my dating life?

If you have doubts or insecurities about dating and being out there to meet your potential mate, you can use hypnosis therapy to help you boost your confidence and increase self-esteem. You can learn to become more present, more self-aware and positive. Your hypnotist will help you identify what some of your limiting beliefs are and together you will reframe them into positive empowering beliefs. These new beliefs, in the form of positive affirmations will be “instilled” in your unconscious mind through hypnosis. You will act what you think and believe.

Which NYC Hypnosis Center should I choose to help me with my love life?

Always do your research. Find out who the hypnotist is. Check their credentials, degrees, certifications, specialties. Always google them and look up their reviews on google business listings. On the google review boards you will find verified people who have had hypnosis sessions with the hypnotist. Make a phone call, most hypnotists offer a ten minute complimentary consultation over the phone. Ask your questions, trust your intuition. And once again – look up their credentials and following.

NYC Hypnosis to forget someone

Hypnosis to mend a broken Heart

Happy woman on the beachYou can not erase memories, but you can make them distant, unimportant almost like an old and hazy dream. Hypnosis therapy is widely used to help you heal a broken heart and move into a better and happier chapter of your life.

How does hypnosis work for a broken heart?

In the state of hypnosis ( deep mental relaxation) your mind is open to suggestion. Your hypnotist will help you relax, program your mind with positive affirmations and guide you into visualizing a new and happy phase in your life. A simple suggestion to detach from the memories associated with your ex will be given to you and sealed in your unconscious mind to help you distance yourself emotionally and mentally from this person.

Why is visualization important in hypnosis?

Visualization is a from of guided imagery. At least, according to Einstein “imagination is more powerful than knowledge.” In the imaginative state of mind, you can visualize your goals and desired outcomes. Athletes use visualization to rehearse their successes mentally, which helps them win their games, because the mind becomes more accepting of what the person wants and is capable of, in other words the visualization “erases” the doubts. In hypnosis for relationship break ups, visualization can be used to fast forward into the future, where you have completely moved on and you are focused on new and exciting things in your life, where your ex is an old and distant dream, which you can not and don’t want to recall anymore. You will feel free and at ease.

How many hypnosis sessions are needed to mend a broken heart?

We highly recommend two hypnosis sessions to heal a broken heart. However, you will begin to see the results after the first hypnosis session.

You will begin to accept the fact that you are actually better off without the person who broke your heart.  There is a much better chapter ahead of you, better times and healthier relationships. Start with yourself. There is only one person you need back. And that is you.

NYC Hypnosis for Smoking Cessation

Young woman quitting smokingYou can stop smoking cigarettes with hypnosis therapy.

It is estimated, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, that 40 million adults in the United States currently smoke cigarettes. Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States, accounting for more than 480,000 deaths every year, or 1 of every 5 deaths. More than 16 million Americans live with a smoking-related disease.

You can stop smoking in one single hypnosis session.

Imagine becoming a non-smoker in just one hour? Seems like magic, but it is real.  In the deep state of hypnotic receptivity you will rewrite your personal story from “I can’t” to “I can”. You will switch your old beliefs from ” I am a smoker, I like cigarettes, I need cigarettes” to ” I am a non-smoker, I have no need for cigarettes, I have tremendous amount of will power and self control.”

Every smoker knows how certain activities are often associated with smoking. For example, some smokers have to light up a cigarette with their first coffee in the morning or immediately after lunch or when they drive in a car and etc. In hypnosis, you can break down these connections with a cigarette. Any of your activities, whether is waking up in the morning, with coffee, socializing, after lunch or dinner and etc – all of these situations will become inconsistent with smoking.

Everything you know about smoking being a dangerous, health harming activity will be reinforced in your unconscious mind. You know consciously that smoking causes cancer, emphysema and stroke. We will bring this knowledge into a deep unconscious level, so that upon awaking from hypnosis, you will naturally begin to reject the habit of smoking with your mind and body.

You will have no cravings or urges for a cigarette and no ill effects.

The majority of our clients have no cravings or urges for smoking after the smoking cessation session. However, every client is taught powerful self-hypnosis techniques just in case a thought of a cigarette ever crosses the mind. Suggestions to exercise and eat healthy are also given to client to maintain an overall healthy lifestyle.

Hypnosis for Weight Loss in NYC

How does hypnosis work for weight loss?

There are three simple secrets to weight loss. Regular Exercise, Eating Healthy and High Self-Esteem.

Weight, loss, success.

Losing weight doesn’t mean that you need to lose any significant amount of weight in order to become thin or skinny. Every person has a healthy body weight, that is your birth right. Losing weight means shedding extra pounds that you don’t need on your body. You can be thin, athletic, curvy, medium or small size – it doesn’t matter. You have your desired healthy body shape and you can achieve that with hypnosis therapy.

In the state of hypnosis, you can rewire your beliefs and change your old habits of not exercising or sneaking on the bad and unhealthy foods. You can develop cravings for daily exercise and sugar-free, unprocessed healthy nutritious foods – enough to sustain life in your body. You can learn how eating slowly can enable you to eat less and feel full and satiated after you have finished only half of your regular portion. Your stomach will naturally shrink over time and you will require less food, which will naturally lead to losing weight.

How much weight can I lose with hypnosis therapy?

Our clients report weight loss anywhere from 5 to 50 lbs. Again, it depends purely on the client’s goals and physique. It can take anywhere from two weeks to six months to achieve your weight loss goal through hypnosis.

How many hypnosis sessions do I need to lose weight?

We recommend anywhere from two to five hypnosis sessions to help you establish better eating habits and mind-set, eliminate food addictions, enhnace self-esteem and motivate for weight loss and exercise. In your complimentary phone consultation with NYC Hypnotist Elena Beloff, we will be able to identify your weight loss goals and how many hypnosis sessions will be required to achieve them.

How does hypnosis and self-esteem connect to weight loss?

Sometimes, people want what’s not healthy for them or they have low self-esteem and a poor body image. We come in all shapes and forms and the first thing we focus on is your self-acceptance and understanding what body image and weight is ideal and healthy for you, not anyone else or the society. You will set your own healthy standarts and let the rest follow.

When will I begin to see the results from hypnosis sessions?

You will start seeing the results after your first hypnosis session. Whatever the first goal we choose to focus on, you will begin to see this goal materialize in your daily life.  Like for instance, losing appetite for sweets or chocolate or craving exercise. With hypnosis sessions you will also receive a complimentary link to our HypnoCleanse for Weight Loss, a 7 day self-hypnosis audio course. These audios are recommended for any future reinforcement and maintenance.

What’s Your SIDCHA (Self-Imposed Daily Challenging Healthy Activity)?

SIDCHA_nyc hypnosis for exercise motivationLast night I got a chance to catch up with a friend of mine, who I haven’t seen in about fives years. Joshua Spodek, he always amazed me. The guy is such a polymath, he earned his PHD in Physics from Columbia University. Like that wasn’t enough, he went back to Columbia and received his MBA a few year later. As I was catching up with him over some tea at the Art Bar in West Village, all I can say is I walked out of our meeting feeling more inspired than I felt in quite a long time. Here is why: SIDCHA.

Self Imposed Daily Challenging Healthy Activity

SIDCHAs give you independence, confidence, security, and resilience. They create a platform for everything else you want to do to improve your life, free from distraction, full of direction and focus.” Says the inventor of SIDCHA Joshua Spodek.

The examples of SIDCHAs are exercises, writing, meditation, cold showers and etc. Watching TV, listening to music, and reading don’t qualify, since they are too easy.

I have to say as soon as I heard just that word SIDCHA, my attention was caught. SIDCHA sounds a little similar to the word used in a title of a book by Hermann Hesse’s  “Siddharta” (1922). The novel is about a spiritual journey of self-discovery of a man named Siddhartha during the time of the Gautama Buddha.  The word Siddhartha is made up of two words in the Sanskrit language, siddha (achieved) + artha (what was searched for), which together means “he who has found meaning (of existence)” or “he who has attained his goals”.  So SIDCHA and siddha are close enough in phonetics, but also close enough in meaning.

With SIDCHA, you achieve your goals on daily basis, which ultimately leads you to achieving bigger goals in life.

Imagine the feeling at the end of the day, knowing that you have done those 25 push-ups and 50 sit-ups no matter how tired or bad you felt or that you wrote your daily entry on your blog or at least 500 words for your screenplay, even if you felt like you ran out of ideas that day and were not in a mood. Imagine 6 months later the feeling of knowing you have better abs, strong core, busy blog with 180 more posts and a finished screenplay. It’s not just about a tangible result which is inevitable after having a SIDCHA in your life. It is also about a feeling you get inside: be it pride, accomplishment, self worth, happiness, clarity. It’s different for everyone.

Your SIDCHA can be anything, for as long as it is self-imposed, daily, challenging, healthy and active.

Another reason why I was drawn to the concept is SIDCHA is that in my opinion it is directly linked to your will power.  In many years of my private practice in consulting hypnotism and just years of life all together, I have stumbled upon two kinds of people: those that identify themselves with the conditions of the past ( consciously or unconsciously ) and those that don’t.

For example there are people that say or believe:

My father was an alcoholic, that’s why I became an alcoholic.

I grew up in an abusive environment, that’s why things are so hard for me and I feel like the world is unjust and everyone is against me.

I grew up in poor conditions and no stability, thats why I am so poor and unstable.

The list is long. Here is another type of people that I admire the most:

My father was an alcoholic, that’s why I chose to be healthy and never drink.

I grew up in an abusive environment, that’s why I turned things around and chose to challenge myself and see the world as full of kind people, a place to grow.

I grew up in poor conditions and no stability, thats why I turned things around and learned how to plan, save and create abundance and stability.

See the difference?  What do you think it takes to turn your self-imposed limitation of ” I can’t, I am not able, I am not good enough, It’s impossible, I am not worthy…”  into a self-empowering thought of “I can and I will?”

Your Will Power! Your decision to turn your thoughts and actions around.

You can start with something small as a self-imposed daily challenging activity – SIDCHA!

How Hypnosis Works and How We Get Hypnotized

Morning At Dune BeachLast summer I spend some time in the Hamptons having a good time with friends and also doing some hypnosis sessions and teaching private hypnosis courses for self-empowerment.

One of many things I teach my clients is relaxation techniques to manage stress and to elicit a relaxation response. The relaxation response is a physical state of deep rest that changes the physical and emotional responses to stress and the opposite of the fight or flight response.

Another very important lesson I teach my clients is the ability to think critically, because I believe hypnosis is all around us: in the media, TV, internet, social media, politics and even in some of the interpersonal relationships we engage in.

To delve more into some of the insights I share about hypnosis and how it works, listen to the half hour Glimpse of Brilliance podcast hosted by Maayan Laufer, who I also met in the Hamptons this past summer.

Hypnosis to overcome the fear of flying

Airplane_01

It takes two hypnosis sessions to help my clients permanently overcome a fear of flying. Through hypnosis you can release your fears and discomfort and learn self-hypnosis techniques to stay calm and relaxed.

There are three components that need to happen during the hypnosis session: 1. The establishment and anchoring of a positive feeling. 2. Mental rehearsal of a relaxed and positive experience on the airplane. 3. Positive suggestions to overcome a fear of flying.

A state of hypnosis is achieved by a hypnotic induction. Hypnotic state is similar to the state of deep meditation or a focused attention. There is nothing unordinary about the state of hypnosis, we naturally go in and out of this state on a day to day basis.

As a consulting hypnotist I am trained to induce such states in my clients and guide them through positive experiences while they are mentally relaxed and open to incoming ideas. It is almost like learning something new when you were in school. In order to learn, you have to focus and be interested in what you are learning. Hypnosis facilitates openness and suggestibility.

If you are afraid to fly you tend to experience a feeling of discomfort, tension and anxiety from being on the airplane or just thinking about it can give you anxiety alone. My first goal is to help my clients identify and establish the opposite of this feeling, which is a sense of relaxation, comfort and ease. While the client is in a state of deep relaxation, I guide them to think of a time when they have experienced this positive feeling or I instruct them to imagine a place of comfort like a tropical island or being by the lake. Once that positive feeling is established and they can feel it physically and emotionally, I ask them to anchor it with a deep breath or a mental picture, or even perhaps a word that they can say to themselves silently with their inner voice. The process of anchoring allows a client to create a permanent trigger, which they can use at will anytime and anywhere to access a desired feeling of ease and comfort.

The mental rehearsal of a positive experience on the airplane is important, as it naturally reinforces a belief and understanding that you can feel comfortable and relaxed on the plane at all times, even if there is turbulence. In trance you are able to see yourself board the plane, take off, airborne and landing while feeling totally calm and relaxed. This mental rehearsal leads you to reinforce a positive feeling of comfort . You will begin to understand that it is illogical to feel discomfort while flying, because feeling tense won’t stop the airplane from breaking and it won’t help you feel better, so you might as well just relax and trust the pilots do their work. On the top of all that, the odds of being killed on a airplane are 1 in 4 million.

Finally, while the client is deeply relaxed I give them positive suggestions ( affirmations) to reinforce the understanding of total safety when they fly, feeling of comfort at all times, and the ability to relax naturally at will.
